2024/2025 ADMISSION EXERCISE: LASU COMMENCES VERIFICATION OF INDIGENES AS VC MEETS MEMBERS OF INDEPENDENT INDIGENESHIP VERIFICATION COMMITTEE

Ahead of the commencement of the 2024/2025 Indigeneship Verification Exercise for applicants of Lagos State origin, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and other members of management held a meeting with members of the Independent Indigene Verification Committee (IIVC) on Monday, 1st July 2024.

The meeting was held at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room on the 6th floor of Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, main campus, Ojo, Lagos. The Vice Chancellor noted that the meeting was held to familiarize with the committee members again and appreciate them for their service to the university over the past few years.

She reiterated the terms of reference of members of the committee to include; investigation by interviewing and taking other necessary steps to confirm or otherwise the claims of prospective students and staff of Lagos State University to Lagos State origin using applicable Laws and Policies regulating indigeneship; recommend to the Vice Chancellor from time to time, actions to be taken to ensure that the indigeneship policy of the University is actualised; and disseminate information to indigenous communities in Lagos State, where the need arises.

The Professor of Physiology averred that it is important for members of the committee to ensure that all candidates are attended to within the stipulated time as there will be no mop-up exercise. She further announced that 62,491 candidates chose LASU in the last UTME, reinforcing the institution’s position as one of the most preferred universities in Nigeria.

Chairman of the IIVC, Professor Maruf Animashaun, in his remarks, welcomed new and old members of the committee and intimated them on the requirements for the verification exercise. He also urged them to put in more effort in order to make the exercise even better than the previous years.

A member of the committee, Mr M. O Okunmoyinbo, also shared his views and thanked the University Management for giving the committee the necessary support to perform their obligations without interference.

The Indigeneship Verification Exercise will hold for a duration of four weeks from *Monday, 8th July to Thursday, 1st August 2024*, with the registration portal set to open on *Monday, 1st July 2024.
