NO SCHOOL FEES – NO COURSE REGISTRATION – NO EXAM – ACTING UNICROSS VC
“NO SCHOOL FEES, NO COURSE REGISTRATION, NO EXAM” ACTING VC DECLARE DURING INTERFACE WITH STUDENT LEADERS
The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, Prof. Stephen Ochang has declared that students who are yet to pay their school fees for the 2023/24 Academic Session will not be allowed to write the Second Semester Examination. He stated this today during an interface with Student Union Leaders drawn from the SUG, Faculty Presidents, Departmental Presidents as well as Local Government Presidents.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Ochang narrated the ordeal the university is facing due to insufficient funds needed to pay staff salaries. According to him “I took a loan of 37% interest just to pay staff salaries for the previous month because the 215 million Subvention allocated to the school by the State Government is not enough as the waybill amounts to 330 million naira”.
The meeting which took place at the Vice Chancellor’s Office was called to intimate the Union Leaders of the directive issued by Management of the University. According to the release “This is to bring to the attention of all stakeholders in the University that all Students are REQUIRED to update their profiles and register their courses on the University Edu-portal with effect from Wed, 19th June 2024 to Friday, 5th July, 2024”.
The statement added if a student does not pay fee, he/she will not be able to register for their course and without registration of courses, the Students’ name will not be in the attendance list meaning the said student will not be allowed to write the Second Semester Examination slated for Monday, 15th July, 2024.
The Management of the University further “Appeals to all stakeholders to please treat the contents of this circular with the seriousness and urgency it deserves and take the action prescribed above within the time given when the portal will stay open”. It added that “Management will be hamstrung and unable to respond that any pleas after the portal has been closed”.
Toying the line of the Acting VC, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Antigha appealed to the Student Leaders to spread the message to all their fellow students insisting that the “No Fee, No Exam” policy will take effect as Management has directed.
Reacting to the directive, the SUG President, Comrade Humphrey appealed to Management to extend the deadline of the school fees payment to July, 10th 2024 to enable the students meet up with the payment. The Vice Chancellor in his prompt response assured the Union Leaders that their appeal will be taken into consideration.
