Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) on Tuesday locked the school’s main gate in protest against the increase in their school fees by the institution’s management.
The actions of the students led to a restriction in vehicular and human movement in the school.
Following the increase in the school fees of students by the management of the OAU on September 14, 2023, there had been a series of discussions between the students and the school management but both parties are yet to reach a mutual conclusion.

It would be recalled that after the initial increase in the tuition by OAU which sparked protests among the students, the school’s management scaled back its contentious 300% tuition fee increase by 15%.
The OAU’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement, announced the adjustment saying the University remained committed to addressing the concerns raised by students.
The adjustment came after a lengthy meeting with student leaders.
However, based on Tuesday’s fresh protest, it is clear the students are not satisfied and want a further reduction in the tuition
